Beat the Heat with Cooling Summer Practices

By now, we are firmly in Pitta season in North America - and most of us are feeling it!

Pitta dosha consists of fire and some water, so this time of year can feel quite hot! That’s not all bad, of course. We receive lots of energy from the sun in the Summer. The veggies and flowers bursting forth from the earth are just one tangible result of this powerful energetic wave.
However, it’s not unusual to feel a little burnt out by this point in the season, especially if you have been thoroughly enjoying all of the social and nature-based opportunities Summer has to offer. It’s wonderful to take advantage of this season which is brimming with abundance, but it’s also important to take care of yourself by finding opportunities to cool off and ground your energy.
One way to do this is by eating cooling foods, like most fruits and vegetables. Ayurveda advises favoring bitter, astringent, and sweet tastes at this time of year. Savor that cold peach straight from the icebox and those leafy greens from your garden!

It’s also a good idea to take time to rest and nourish your body. SomaYoga is a great choice for that. Check out these cooling, grounding, and centering practices from our Class Library for the perfect antidote to Pitta imbalance:
Use discount code SUMMERHEAT to rent a video from our Class Library for 50% off through the month of August! Video accessible for 2 months from purchase date.
Stay cool,
