The Niyamas + Connecting with yourSelf

The Niyamas, the second limb of yoga, offers us guidelines for checking in with the Self. Following the Yamas, which teach us how to become better community members, the Niyamas allow us to go deeper into ourselves to connect with who we are, what we want, and our intrinsic tools that support and honor our ever-evolving hearts. Where the Yamas show us what not to do by illuminating life’s “don’ts”, the Niyamas give us a set of “do’s” which allow us to fully inhabit our lives and step into our dharma. By studying and practicing Purity, Contentment, Self-Discipline, Self-Study, and Surrender, we gain the skills to move past life blockages. We learn to listen deeply and let transformation happen within us. We are forged in the fire of our own inner landscape. Study of the Niyamas does not prescribe exactly how we bring these qualities into our lives. Rather, the Niyamas as internal practices, ask us to look within, cultivate discernment, and work just at the edges of our own growth. 

We will be studying the Niyamas in-depth in Part II of Into the Heart of Winter Satsang beginning February 12th. This 5-week online book study involves light reading and weekly discussion to help us grow and transform together.
